We believe that all pupils can achieve in Design Technology and that high-quality DT lessons will provide our children with the opportunity to use their imagination, to design and make products for a variety of purposes and to evaluate these effectively, inspiring them to become successful engineers.
Our Design Technology curriculum provides planned opportunities for our children that emphasise discussion, exploration and debate with plentiful opportunities for children to demonstrate their growing technical knowledge and skills in a variety of ways.
Children will be taught a range of skills including: mechanisms, textiles, cooking and nutrition and structures throughout primary and electrical systems as they move into Key Stage 2. Through hands-on, practical experiences we aim for children to leave Year 6 with knowledge and skills of DT which will inspire them to become chefs, engineers, carpenters, designers and architects. We recognise the importance of DT in our ever changing technical world and strive to inspire our children to become active learners, active leaders and active citizens.
The teaching of our Design Technology curriculum embraces our Fixby values: curiosity, courage, confidence, compassion, cooperation and tolerance. By focusing on these, we believe that our pupils will be happy, safe while learning and become model citizens as they continue their journey throughout education and beyond.
