PE (Physical Education)

Our Physical Education (PE) curriculum aims to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities necessary for mental, emotional, social and physical well-being in our children, now and for their future.

Here at Fixby we follow the ‘P.E Planning’ scheme of work. To ensure our pupils receive a full P.E experience, we have a 2-year cycle to facilitate pupils experiencing the full scheme. Our PE programme provides an engaging and challenging curriculum which incorporates a variety of physical activities through a range of different sports and activities. This ensures all children develop the confidence, knowledge and skills around different aspects of PE. Some of our themes focus on the following:

  • Locomotor, stability and manipulation skills
  • Understanding rules, strategies and tactics
  • Healthy living and participation
  • Enjoyment of physical activity

We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on concentration, attitude and academic achievement. We provide opportunities for all children to engage in extra-curricular activities during and after school, in addition to competitive sporting events.

  • Each term, pupils participate in intra-house competitions, providing opportunities for them to practice the knowledge and skills they have learnt in P.E lessons.
  • Working with Pennine Sports Partnership, pupils have the opportunity to take part in sporting activities with local schools.
  • We employ Sports Coaches to work with KS2 pupils on a lunchtime, developing their passion for sports and sportsmanship

This is an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage not only physical development but also well-being.

We aim to ensure all students leave school possessing the skills, motivation and knowledge to enjoy a lifelong engagement with sports and physical activity. We trust that our broad PE curriculum will allow students to develop their love of movement and sport well beyond their time with us.
