Science

At Fixby Junior and Infant School, we prioritise a comprehensive understanding of science through the White Rose Science Scheme. This programme encompasses the three fundamental scientific disciplines: biology, chemistry, and physics. By engaging with these areas, pupils develop a well-rounded appreciation of the world around them, sparking their curiosity and inspiring them to ask relevant questions.

Through the scheme, we embed a variety of scientific skills within each unit, including observation, comparative testing, investigation, fair testing, research, identification, classification, pattern seeking, and data handling. These skills are instrumental in fostering an investigative mindset, enabling children to extend their scientific knowledge gradually.

Our carefully sequenced lessons are designed to build upon previous learning, ensuring that enquiry skills are developed with increasing depth and challenge as students advance through the school. The scheme operates over a two-year cycle, accommodating both Cycle 1 and Cycle 2. It aligns seamlessly with our core school values of curiosity, courage, compassion, tolerance, and cooperation, ultimately nurturing a generation of thoughtful and inquisitive learners who are well-equipped to explore the complexities of the natural world.
