Safeguarding Pupils

Every school must have a Child Protection Policy - often referred to as the school's Safeguarding Policy. The aim of the policy is to ensure that our school has effective measures in place to safeguard your children from the potential risk of harm and that the safety and wellbeing of the children are of the highest priority in all aspects of our school's work. Having the policy in place ensures that all members of our school community:

• Are aware of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection
• Know the procedures that should be followed if they have a cause for concern
• Know where to go to find additional information regarding safeguarding
• Are aware of the key indicators relating to child abuse
• Fully support the school's commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

Operation Encompass

Our school is part of Operation Encompass. This is a police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience Domestic Abuse.  Operation Encompass means that the Education Safeguarding Service will share information about Domestic Abuse incidents with our school PRIOR to the start of the next school day when the police have been called to a domestic incident.   Once DSL has attended at an Operation Encompass briefing, they will cascade the principles of Operation Encompass to all DDSL’s.  Our parents are fully aware that we are an Operation Encompass school.   The Operation Encompass information is stored in line with all other confidential safeguarding and child protection information.   The DSL has also led training for all school staff and Governors about Operation Encompass, the prevalence of Domestic Abuse and the impact of this abuse on children. We have also discussed how we can support our children following the Operation Encompass notification.   We are aware that we must do nothing that puts the child/ren or the non-abusing adult at risk.  The Safeguarding Governor will report on Operation Encompass in the termly report to Governors. All information is anonymised for these reports

• FEARLESS Fearless - who we are Fearless is the dedicated youth service of the independent charity Crimestoppers. We provide you with the opportunity to give information about crime 100% anonymously.
• Coerced Online child sexual abuse Children can be groomed, coerced or encouraged into sexual activities online. This is known as self-generated child sexual abuse content, or first person produced images and videos. It’s where sexual images or videos of children are captured via a webcam or camera-enabled device. There is no physical presence of the abuser and the child is often in their own bedroom or bathroom. Whilst these images can be the product of grooming, blackmail and coercion, they could have also been originally voluntarily produced by the child, but then shared with others without the child’s full knowledge or consent. Any child with unsupervised access to the internet is potentially at risk.

• About the Early Support Service Raising a family and seeing your child develop and grow can be immensely rewarding. Family life can also present many challenges and there may be times when you need some extra help. Early support is about identifying problems as soon as possible and working with you to help you find solutions. It involves services such as health, education, and the council working together to help you get the right support at the right time.
