At Fixby School we understand the importance of Maths as part of our children’s futures. Therefore, we intend to provide our pupils with a strong and secure understanding of mathematical concepts. Mathematical talk, knowledge and skills are used in Maths lessons and opportunities are given to apply these to everyday situations and contexts.
Our Maths Curriculum develops secure building blocks for the development of mathematical understanding, reasoning and problem solving. Finally, we want our pupils to develop confidence in their Maths ability and a curiosity to learn more, which will lay a strong foundation for later life.
To achieve the above we follow the White Rose Maths curriculum which follows a progressive sequence of learning. It follows a concrete, pictorial, abstract approach which gives children scaffolds to develop a deep understanding of Mathematical concepts. White Rose Maths is an ambitious, connected curriculum that is accessible to all pupils. It meets the requirements of the National Curriculum and allows us to adapt this curriculum to meet the needs of all our children
