Music at Fixby
At Fixby Junior and Infant School, our Music curriculum is designed to ensure that every pupil becomes a confident musician by the time they leave us in Year 6. We aim to inspire our pupils by engaging with a range of musical experiences across the curriculum. We understand the
importance of music and how this subject plays a vital role in other key areas such as: listening skills, reading, counting, memory, mental health and well-being, confidence, respect and performance. Music is a key subject in helping pupils achieve and reach their full potential. It also supports the development of positive mental health. With a high percentage of EAL in school we realise how effective music is in supporting communication, we are committed to enabling our pupils to express themselves in creative and artistic ways. We support our children to develop a critical engagement with Music, allowing them to create, compose, perform, refine and evaluate their work. In Key Stage 2 all children will learn how to play a musical instrument with a music specialist. As a result of the Music curriculum offer, we see our children’s self-confidence and sense of achievement grow over their time in school.
