    Our Vision and Values

At Fixby Junior & Infant School, we believe children learn best through doing, playing and exploring. We strive to develop confident and resilient learners with a lifelong love of learning. Our approach is child-led and rooted in the assessed needs and interests of every pupil. We make use of both indoor and outdoor activities each day, drawing on the natural environment as a starting point for many real-life learning experiences.

We work alongside children to create a supportive and engaging environment where every pupil can make progress, not only academically but also socially and emotionally. Our staff play a crucial role in supporting children’s development, which is why we invest in their expertise and knowledge of Early Years pedagogy.

    Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is carefully designed to give every child, regardless of their starting point, the knowledge and skills they need to thrive as they move through school and beyond. It covers the 7 areas of learning through play, enquiry and purposeful exploration, while recognising the different developmental stages and learning styles of our children.

We take children on a learning journey that begins by looking inward (ourselves, our families, our community) and gradually broadens to an outward view of the wider world by the end of the Reception year. This progression builds a strong foundation for KS1. Continuous provision, combined with adult-led and child-initiated activities, allows us to deliver a well-sequenced and challenging curriculum. Open-ended resources and provocations encourage curiosity and deeper thinking, ensuring challenge is built into daily practice.

    Personal Development

At Fixby Junior & Infant School, we celebrate the uniqueness of every child and reflect this in our curriculum and daily practice. From the very beginning, we prioritise positive relationships that give children a secure foundation to grow and achieve.

We aim to nurture the ‘whole child’, placing equal importance on building confidence, resilience and social skills alongside academic success. Our school values are embedded throughout the Early Years, shaping the way we interact with children, staff and families, and are celebrated when we see them in action.

    Parent Partnership

We value the partnership between school and home and work hard to strengthen it. We know that strong collaboration between families and school has a significant impact on children’s learning and progress.

Parents are kept up to date with their child’s progress through the ‘Class Dojo’ app and regular communication. We also offer opportunities for Parents and Carers to actively engage in school life through a range of activities, workshops and experiences that support learning in the Early Years.

    Our Facilities

Children in our Early Years learn and play in engaging, well-resourced classrooms with free-flow access to outdoor learning spaces. Our outdoor area includes woodland and a challenging tyre park, which children particularly enjoy during afternoon sessions.

Pupils also benefit from access to our ICT suite, where they begin developing their digital skills, and take part in two PE sessions each week, including lessons with a qualified sports coach.

At Fixby, we place a strong emphasis on the value of play. Children are encouraged to inquire, explore and discover across a variety of indoor and outdoor areas through free-flow, child-led and adult-supported experiences.
